The only place to be on Sunday was Hastings, when the 34th Hastings Half Marathon took place.

Even though there was pressure during the week to cancel The Event due to forecasts of Bad weather, in the end with many other Events cancelled, Hastings was the only major Event to go ahead.

The day dawned on a cloudy and cold day, with an easterly wind, but it was dry and the route was clear.

It is a massive tribute that the hundreds of volunteers, and thousands of fantastic spectators, still turned out to support The Event.

They witnessed the first local winner of the Event for 31 years, when Adam Clarke (HAC) won by 17 seconds from second place Charlie Joslin Allen (Ton. AC), with Gary Foster (HAC), winning a sprint finish for 3rd place.

The Ladies race was won by the evergreen Maria Heslop (Ton.AC), with prospect Stacey Clusker (HAC), two minutes behind, and 3rd place Rachael Grass (HAC).

Possibly the biggest news on The Day was when 3rd place Gary Foster, knelt down and proposed when Stacey Clusker finished (2nd) in the finishing area! Stacey Said Yes.

The organisers, Hastings Lions club, were sorry that so many entrants could make the journey to Hastings, due to weather and travel warnings, which in many cases turned out to be invalid, as many did travel from far and wide for this popular Event.

Over £250,000 is expected to be raised for many charities and needy causes, and ALL monies raised by the event go back into The Community.

We would also like to say a Massive Thank you to all our helpers who turned out on this cold day, which was not a problem for the runners, as the easterly wind blew them home for the last four miles, giving many very good times and PB's.
