Hastings Half Marathon
Sunday 19th March 2017

On an exceptional Windy Day, runners experienced tough conditions for the 33rd Running of the Hastings Half Marathon. With winds gusting up to 40mph at times, it got even stronger during the race, and when the runners reached the Seafront for the last three miles they hit a wall of wind.

A total of 3493 entered the Event.

It was not a day for fast times, but for Heroes taking on the demanding Hastings Route in the toughest conditions ever in its 33 years. Many problems were caused by the strong wind, including blowing over barriers and the Start/Finish arch, and other signage.

But the proof of a good team organising the Event,is when they can adapt and take account of different weather etc.,and still put on a Great Event. And this they certainly Did!! Massive crowds came out along the whole route, and warmly supported the runners and some walkers, many raising monies for needy charities.

Combined with the Entertainment on route, it meant for a Great Day out for all.

One of the highlights was certainly the 'Dolly Parton Tribute Band' who played for nearly two hours on the Promenarde just past the 12 mile point.

Ben Fish 'The Blackburn Flyer' repeated his 2010 Victory,by winning again for the second time. His time did not matter, as he took an early lead and progressively increased at the race went on,to win in a time of 1.09.52,which probably reflects an extra two minutes due to the wind, and Hastings being at three minutes harder than most other Half Marathons.

Second was Rhys Boorman(3rd last year) and 3rd Alex Money.

First Female was Sarah Gruber, winning for the first time at Hastings, after many top five places. 2nd was Sue Fry,and 3rd Julia Wedmore.

The Ladies results were confused by a Man wearing a ladies Race Number, which showed up as the third lady to finish. He was disqualified.

The last finishers finished in 6 hours and 15 minutes.
