Join the Hastings Half Marathon Dolly dash to raise cash for local children’s book charity!. Calling all runners, New Year’s resolution fitness fans and those willing to flex their calf muscles for a good cause! Now the festivities are over and the tinsel has been taken down, for many all that remains is a slightly snugger waistband and a yearning desire to get fit.
If you need an extra incentive, why not shift a few pounds whilst raising a few quid for Imagine Nation, a charity which aims to provides free books to every pre-school child in Hastings and St Leonards?
Imagine Nation hopes to sign up 100 runners or walkers to take part in the Hastings Half Marathon on Sunday 19th March 2017 to help promote their work and raise funds. They are offering to pay the registration fee if runners raise £160 or more and this amount will also fund 60 books which equates to one child receiving a carefully selected, age appropriate every month from birth to the age of five. The aim is for every child to build their own personal library and there is evidence to show that the greater the number of books owned by a child, the better their educational outcome, employment prospects and even health in the future.
Imagine Nation is affiliated with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which was launched in her American home town in Tennessee in 1995 when she realised the benefits that her father would have had if he were not illiterate. As a result there will be a Dolly theme on the day, with some runners opting to don Dolly wigs and boobs plus Sarah Jayne, a Dolly Parton tribute act, will be performing and entertaining runners and spectators alike.

The last time I participated in my school’s Half Marathon, I finished it in about 2 hours and 20 minutes but suffered some severe muscle pains afterwards. It was without any prior practice.This time I trained along with my Pestalozzi friends every Sunday for a good four months before the grand finale came. The event lied right ahead. We cheered up each other as we all joined thousands other on the road. The kick-off signal went and the marathon began.
I maintained a steady speed as I went on. I was really encouraged and up-lifted to see many people cheering and helping the runners all along the route. It was a very supportive environment which I didn’t get in my previous marathon.
Almost 11miles done and I discerned the cool breeze of the sea and the sight of the sea-front ahead. I wasn’t very tired but I started to have some pain in my muscles as I descended down to the seaside. For a while I feared I might have to give up but my heart was too elated to step down from the final two miles of what is going to become a remarkable achievement in my dairy. I compromised my pace a bit for my muscle but kept on pushing myself forward along the- as many other have told me earlier- "the never-ending seafront.” Finally, the sight of the finishing line drew me closer and closer to my goal, and to our goal.
The road ahead bored along its side so many welcoming hands and resounding felicitation. All the tense in my legs subsided and ebullience elevated high above me. A smile forced its way on my face and I gave a full rejuvenated dash in the final few yards. Just then I realized that I have just run pass the sweetest road I have ever came across in my life.
Shortly after, my other friends also crossed the finishing line and the atmosphere was filled with the achievement of our team spirit and support. We made it at last!. Looking at the time, I am very glad to have beaten my previous record by nearly an hour.
