Prize Giving Evening
Hastings Half Marathon Awards Evening Sunday 16th April 2017
ELISE LOVELL, UK Heptathlete, Did a Fantastic job in Presenting the Awards and Prizes. She had the day before taken part in six Events for HAC in a match, and Won Them ALL!
The Biggest winner on The Night was Charity and Needy Causes, as the amount raised from The event so far (with a lot more to come) was a massive £103,623.00, benefiting many Charities. The Dyer Award for the person raising the most for a good cause was won by Jo Saunders, raising £1500 for St.Michael's Hospice.
Besides the Big Prizes on the night for Local and National, and Team Awards, there were a few very Special Awards.
These included The Brenda Boyle Shield of Courage(Sponsored by Spire Sussex Hospital), that was won by Debbie ad Neisha Potter, who besides raising £1172 for charity for Kids, with Neisha going round the route on race day in Her wheelchair, helped by her mother.
Other Surprises were Awards for 'Lifetime Service Awards' for helpers who had been involved in The Event for 33 years.
These were Janice and Kevin Harmer, representing Scouts and Guides, who organise the Hot Drinks at the end of the Run.
Roger Plumb, a Scoutmaster of very high repute, who has been looking after the 6 mile Drink Station for 32 years.
Gavin Strachan, Scoutmaster, who again has been involved in all the Hastings Events since the start, and looks after the water and squash at the finish.
The Hastings Lions Club owes a big debt of gratitude to the above. The Charity Team Award was won by Pestalozzi Village, and the Bo Peep Trophy by The Round Table, in recognition of their Ten Years of pushing their Barrel round the route. A film was also shown of this year's Event, produced by Students at Bexhill College.
Souvenirs and Photos are available of The Event at www.hastings-half.co.uk, where you can NOW enter for next year's Event on Sunday 18th March 2018
